Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
