Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
